Posting a picture to Instagram and checking to see how many ‘likes’ you get is the very definition of caring what other people think of you. It’s a fool’s errand, since it’s impossible to please everybody.
It’s better to care what the right people think of you. The right people are the people you seek to serve.
A teacher ought to care what her students and their families think of her. A father ought to care what his children think of him. A boss ought to care what her employees think of her. By understanding the mindsets of the people you seek to serve you can better serve them.
Shun the vague ‘likes.’ Understand people.
Maybe you don’t yet know who you seek to serve, but at least now you’re asking the right question.
