On Friday, a high-ranking administrator on campus told me that Fredonia’s performing arts departments are lucky to have the support that they do, because most college campuses struggle to drum up support for their arts programs. It turns out that Fredonia is rare in this way.
Last Tuesday I had a conversation with a higher-ranking administrator who told me that Fredonia needs to become comfortable having multiple identities. To be known as an “art school” or a “music school” does good, but only a limited amount. More good would come from being more things to more people.
I’m not sure how this happens, but inviting your music friends to go to the volleyball game tonight is a start.
Because lighting someone else’s candle doesn’t put yours out.
