Bonding over hating other people

In 2015 there were 892 active hate groups in the United States: 190 factions of the Ku Klux Klan, 94 Neo-Nazi groups, and so on.

Obviously you’re not part of a formal hate group, but you might be part of an informal one. This sort of hate group happens when you and a “friend” decide you don’t like someone else, and you talk behind her back every chance you get.

But you know, consciously or unconsciously, that if your “friend” is willing to talk behind her back she’s also willing to talk behind your back. In fact, you can be sure she already is.

Sooner or later, the person you both hate departs your lives and you have nothing left to bond over. Then what?

Then you realize you never had any friends in the first place.
